Ministry of Health:
waste in long-term care
In August 2013 I went back home to the Netherlands and the ministry. I started working
in the long-term care department as project leader to address waste in long-term
care. Health care costs were exploding and we felt the need to contain the costs.
Moreover people complained that there was much waste in health care. Medicines were
not reused, nurses were mainly busy with registrations and food in institutions was
thrown away.
In this article in Eurohealth a summary of the project is given (together with chief
economist Patrick Jeurissen).
The project stopped in 2016 with a closing seminar “100% care”.
