Ministry of Health:
EU-enlargement
Between 2002 and 2007 I was coordinator in the unit
for EU-enlargement and the Council of Europe in the Ministry of Health, welfare and
sport.
We were mainly dealing with bilateral Matra and EU Phare Twinning projects
to prepare the Baltic States, Poland, Czech and Slowak Republic, Hungary, Romania
en Bulgaria for accession to the European Union. There were even some projects in
Russia (mainly on primary health care), and I also visited Almaty where the famous
declaration on primary health care was made in 1978. In this article in Dutch I was
interviewed on the issue of infectious diseases.
Projects included improving Public
health in Lithuania, Drug policy in Romania, Professional qualifications in Poland
etc. Our task was to support Dutch organisations in acquiring those projects (at
least the EU projects) and to be there during official seminars.
